Wow, that was a heck of a wind and lightning storm tonight. Suddenly out of nowhere the wind picked up to an intensity that I've never seen since living in this apartment. It blew one of my bikes over, flung things around the apartment, slammed doors, etc. I could barely even get into the bike room to close the window because the wind was so strong.
Then the lightning started. I decided to watch the show from my balcony, while trying to take some lightning photos. I had never taken any lightning photos before, but tonight I managed to capture three strikes.
There was surprisingly little rain with this storm, and it blew by rather quickly. But that sure was fun while it lasted. Here are my photos of the lightning strikes.

Great catch. Cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning in the same pic. -ds
COOL !! GREAT pictures Vic,
COOL !! GREAT pictures Vic, we were told that 100+ K winds were going to hit the Beach with major lighting but we had some small gusts of wind that was it :(
Thanks
Thanks guys. Yeah, I was happy with those pics. Pretty simple to do with a digital...just keep taking pictures and you're bound to catch some!
It seemed like the worst part of the storm hit north of where I am (Dundas/Islington), so it doesn't surprise me that you didn't see much in the Beach.
Careful!
Dude! Don't do that sh*t. Yo, you can get zapped. Trust me, I know all about getting zapped.
I love your picture
I had that storm over my house during that day and we had a tornado out by Havelock, Ontario. It was a little scary seeing the funnel (then Tornado) being lit up by intense lightning. This was the first time I have ever saw a tornado in my 19 years of my whole life. I was freaking out.
I think that these pictures are really neat to look at. I have been trying to get pictures of the CN Tower being hit by lightning but no luck. I have gotten pictures of lightning bolts and heat lightning but nothing so intense. I love that picture of the cloud to ground strike that the picture is up while I am typing this. I am wondering if you can give me some hints to be successful at capturing the lightning strikes.
Lightning photos
Hi,
Glad you liked those photos! It was fun watching the lightning and trying to get those pics.
That was actually my first attempt at photographing lightning. I guess I was lucky, and the frequency of the lightning allowed me to catch 3 decent strikes.
Basically, all I did was set my digital camera to a long exposure time (I think 10 seconds) and continuously take pictures. I probably took about 70-80 photos that night to get those three to turn out.
There are some pretty amazing CN Tower lightning strikes online:
