Jen is in town from Vancouver for a little over a week during her reading break. Of course, since this year's winter hasn't been too cold, we decided that the best use of a Saturday afternoon would be to go for a long bike ride. We had a few things we wanted to do downtown, so we headed east from home. Instead of just riding down Bloor like we often do, we decided to ride through some of the neighbourhoods and see some new sights.
At Dundas St., just north of Bloor, we crossed the railway tracks by using the pedestrian bridge. It even has handy ramps to make it easy to push a bike over the bridge.

After zig-zagging eastward through the neighbourhoods, we came to our next destination. On Yarmouth Rd. (just south of Dupont, between Ossington and Bathurst) we found the "big elephant" on someone's front lawn.

Jen and I first heard about this big elephant on Stuart McLean's CBC radio show. Stuart didn't mention exactly where it was, but then in a recent edition of Spacing Magazine it mentioned it was on Yarmouth Rd.

So here we are, at the Big Elephant, a neat little Toronto landmark we've wanted to see for many months.

After hanging out by the elephant for a bit, we continued our ride downtown. We went to the Urbane Cyclist (it seems all trips downtown end up there...), and then walked over to MEC while Jen had a few repairs done to her bike.
Here are a couple of photos of hot-dog-eating mural in a parking lot just off King St.

Mmmm...hot dogs. I was getting hungry....

...so after picking up our bikes at Urbane again, we went to King's Noodle House on Spadina for some Chinese food. The best part of going to these asian restaurants is the hot tea you get as soon as you sit down at the table.

I chowed down on some duck. Yes, the meat hanging in the window of this place is delicious!
