Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour

[Friday] [Saturday] [Sunday]

PICTURE DESCRIPTION
Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour Without much advanced planning, I decided to make a little weekend bike tour out to Darlington Provincial Park in Oshawa. To maximize my weekend, my plan was: Ride down to the Port Credit GO station after work on Friday, take a train to Oshawa, and ride to the park about 13km away. On Saturday I would do a day-trip somewhere, and on Sunday I would ride back to Etobicoke (bail-out points were available at any GO station west of Pickering, or any subway station once I reached Toronto).
I took this photo a block away from work as I rode down Hurontario St. at Burnhamthorpe Rd.

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour After stopping for some groceries at the No Frills on Lakeshore Rd. in Port Credit, I rode up to the GO train station. The ticket from here to Oshawa costs $10.60. Not a bad price to pay for a quick, stress-free, and often scenic ride out of the city. Here's the view to the west as I waited for my train.

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour Hooray...my train has arrived.

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour After leaving the GO station, I had to ride a few ugly industrial roads near the GM plant before arriving at the Waterfront Trail. The stretch of trail through Oshawa is a great mix of easy on-road and off-road trails that wind their way along the lake shore.

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour Quiet....no noise, no cars...
Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour I stopped here for a second to look at Scattergood's Pond.

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour Here's the western edge of Darlington Provincial Park. The main entrance is on the eastern side. Too bad the opening through the gate was so narrow. I had to remove a pannier to squeeze my bike through (barely!).

Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour After checking in and registering a campsite, I stopped at the camp store to buy some firewood (as seen on the back of my bike) and then rode down to my campsite. It was starting to get dark fast. First thing I did was set up my tent, etc.
Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour ....and then I started up my campfire!
Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour Another picture of my campsite. It was actually a really nice spot, with a sort of private little nook where I put my tent, so it gave a bit more privacy. Site #235...I'll have to remember that.
Darlington Provincial Park Bike Tour For dinner I had a bunch of sausages on a bun, BBQ'd on the campfire. Yum. Didn't take me long to fall asleep after eating dinner and cleaning up.
