Some new "Cyclists Dismount" signs are posted on Bloor St. between
Lansdowne and Bloor, where the road dips under the railway tracks
twice. This is an area where you will often see cyclists hop up onto
the sidewalk to avoid riding on these short stretches of road.
I think cyclists feel unsafe on the road here because the traffic
suddenly speeds up very quickly, there's no "bail-out" room because
of the underpass walls, and the road surface is poor.
The City seems to know that cyclists often ride on the sidewalk here,
possibly from pedestrian complaints, but instead of doing something to
fix the actual problem of an unsafe / uncomfortable street, they hung
up signs.
